Sometimes the best way to find your story is to let someone, or something, ask you the right questions.
I’m working on a new portfolio website and want to do something special for my About page. Instead of asking AI to write it for me, I turned to Claude (my editor, writer, and creative thinking AI partner) to brainstorm some ideas. My first prompt laid out my goal and invited Claude to ask me questions that it we could build on together.
What followed felt like a real interview. Claude asked thoughtful questions that pushed me to reflect on what makes me unique. It was encouraging. Sometimes a little too enthusiastic. Each round of back-and-forth helped me clarify my story.
At first, the results weren’t what I wanted. Claude wrote a long recap of my background. Then it went wild with literal “experiential” approaches. Neither fit. So I re-explaining my intent, shared examples, and proposed my own ideas. We iterated until we landed on something that clicked. A strong hook that leads into a visual storytelling experience.
I can’t wait to share it.
This process wasn’t about outsourcing my thinking. It was about co-creating. By treating AI as a partner, I unlocked ideas I wouldn’t have found on my own. A good reminder to myself that AI shines when you collaborate with it, not when you expect it to hand you the answer.
