I’ve started a few projects with an AI-first approach, building with production code in a local environment. It’s been great for thinking through every detail of a problem and seeing real data customers would see.
One question I keep wrestling with: what happens after the prototype?
It’s a lot to ask people to get the prototype running on their local environments. Even sharing a link can be tricky if the feature is buried deep in your product experience.
What if another designer needs to take over? This workflow breaks the collaborative benefits that come with Figma for people who aren’t up to speed with AI and GitHub. They can’t easily see your work unless you find an easy way to host the prototype.
My solution for now involves pairing the prototype with annotated screenshots. This lets people quickly scan what I’ve worked on and gives developers the key details they need.
That doesn’t solve it for other designers. Using the Figma MCP to turn my code into high-fidelity Figma files would be the way to go but it doesn’t work as advertised. Not in our complex setup anyway.
My hope is that it’ll eventually get there.
