Last week was a big learning week for me.
We’ve just embarked on a month long hackathon at Automattic. One of the goals is to leverage AI as much as possible to produce the best outcomes.
I’ve already embraced AI and incorporated it into every aspect of my work. This week, I somehow found a way to take it to another level. I’ve been deep in code, shipping updates fast.
This new focus had me bumping up against limits on my usage and making some mistakes. My pull requests were too big and hard to review. I was running out of tokens because my chats were too long.
After evaluating how I was working, I found ways to improve and be more efficient. I restructured my entire workflow in a sitting. All with the help of AI of course.
I’m now producing smaller PRs with better code. I created two agents to handle planning and execution separately so they can hand off work to each other in separate chats. That’s saving me tons of tokens and making the work more efficient.
These little tweaks have led to big productivity gains and memorable lessons learned.
