Bringing an early stage startup to the market

Role

As a design director for a 12 person company, I lead numerous efforts that brought the remx product to the market.

Some of my responsibilities included: conducting customer interviews, analyzing data, performing competitor reviewers, running workshops, conceptualizing and executing the designs, and overseeing the engineering efforts to build the product.

Problem

When I joined remx, they were starting out as an NFT digital wearable marketplace. It was around the peak of the NFT crazy. As the market began to cool so did the usage of our platform and the viability of our business.

Approach

Thankfully, during the tenure of our digital wearable marketplace, we established a strong community of artists around us. We leveraged these relationships to conduct a wide ranging research project. This helped us learn what challenges artists in the web3 ecosystem were facing. I participated in a number of these conversations and helped synthesize the insights into a new strategy for our product.

We used the strategy to guide an exploration of what remx could be. During this time I ran workshops, facilitated discussions, and produced a ton of mockups.

Building our new MVP

After this exploration, we emerged with a clear vision: a platform for artists to publish their art as collectable NFTs that unlocked exclusive content for their collectors.

We used the mockups we created to run usability tests with our target audience and validated the direction. We also used those tests to collect feedback on the designs.

The feedback was positive. Our artists were excited about what we were building. They were ready to try out our new product but we had lots of work to do. To meet their demand, we broke our vision down into a series of releases that delivered value to our artists as quick as we could.

We moved to a weekly planning and shipping cadence to accelerate our learning and adoption. I was heavily involved in these planning efforts and guided all our prioritization efforts.

Outcome

In a matter of months we completely transformed our product. We brought our vision to life. With each iteration, we continued to evolve the product and grow our demand. Thousands of users joined our platform and proved the viability of our business.
