It’s only been a couple months since I started working in web3 and in that time, I have been really impressed by the creativity and high quality design work in this space. While the metaverse still has some ways to go, people are making websites more immersive with big, bold, full screen designs paired with stunning 3D and custom soundtracks. As a quick side note, I’m also really loving connecting my wallet to log in to a site rather than providing credentials but that’s a separate topic.
Seeing this kind of work gets me excited not only because it sets a high bar for me but because it’s just the beginning! In this post, I’m going to share some of the cool things I’ve found.
This is the first site I came across that caught my attention. It loads quick and works really smoothly considering there’s a full screen 3D Ape walking in the background. You can turn on some music that’s custom trailered for the visuals which makes it feel like an all round sensory experience. The custom cursor is a nice touch and, to top it off, it also works just as well on desktop as it does on mobile. There’s nothing more left to say other than check it out for yourselves:
I found this website while doing some research for our own website and thought it was very fun. The bright colours, tasteful animations, and custom sounds make it feel immersive. With all that sound and motion, I thought it was a nice touch that they offered controls in the menu so people can turn them off.
Make sure you check your volume before you check this one out because the sound starts playing right away.
If you like Anime, you’re going to love this website. Performance-wise, I don’t know how they pull off these full screen 3D environments that work so smoothly. This one also comes with a custom soundtrack and cursor for that extra touch to polish it off. Go ahead and take a look!
This website isn’t web3 in a traditional sense but since it uses Augmented reality (AR) I thought I’d include it because AR is part of the web3 technology stack. I also don’t think I’ve ever seen anything that’s this interactive in AR so I double wanted to share it.
Web3 is all about a more immersive internet and while lots of people think that means we’re going to be spending all our time in virtual reality, I personally think it’s going to be using more AR like this site. The only difference is that overtime, we’ll shift from using sites like these on our phones, and computers, to special AR glasses and then maybe implants in our eyes or brains. Make sure you check this out in Chrome because it didn’t work when I tried it in my Brave browser.
This link isn’t to a website but to an Instagram account. When I found this account the other day, I think I spent the longest time on Instagram than I have in a really long time. It’s what inspired me to write this post.
The company behind the account is RTFKT studios (pronounced artifact since it’s cool to drop vowels for web3 company names). They are a creator led organization that is, in my mind, putting together some of the most exciting work in this space. They recently launched an incredible collection of 3D shoes with Nike and are collaborating with the artist Takashi Murakami.
Looking through their account, you get a glimpse of what’s coming in the future. They have tons of 3D and AR posts in there. I really love all the bright colours and high quality models — they’re so pristine. Anyways, I’m probably not doing it enough justice so check it out for yourself!
It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t promote our own site in this list. Compared to these others, we have some ways to go. I’d love to add more motion, some custom animations, and our soundtrack (that wouldn’t play automatically). We’ll get there eventually. We’re constantly making changes. What I like about our aesthetic is the clean style, cool 3D models, and full screen sections that give it that immersive feel. We’re in the process of adding more video content and have some big releases coming up. If you’d like to keep up with the updates, join us on Discord.
Thanks for taking a look through this post. If I missed anything or you have something cool to share, I want to see it! Reach out to me over LinkedIn or Twitter.
